Tri-Cities Prepares To Celebrate Science On Earth Day

Apr 20, 2017

The March For Science in Washington, D.C., is happening this Saturday on Earth Day. Smaller science events are happening across the Northwest -- even in conservative southeast Washington.

Steve Ghan is a fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Lab in Richland. He leads some of the climate change science there. As a private citizen, it really dismayed him to hear President Trump’s budget director Mick Mulvaney recent say “climate research is a waste of money.”

“And so there is apparently little understanding of the value of it,” Ghan said. “And that’s sad.”

Ghan will be giving a speech on climate science at the family-friendly outdoor science fair in Richland.

An estimated 18,000 people work in science in the Tri-Cities. They’re doing everything from unlocking mysteries of black holes, to figuring out what’s gonna be on our futuristic dinner plates.
