Former King County Executive Ron Sims announced today on KUOW that he will not run for Seattle mayor as many people have speculated.

Sims retired from his position as deputy secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2011.

Sims said he consulted close friends before making his decision to not run for mayor. Ultimately, Sims decided, “There are other mountains I want to climb, and my wife and I want to climb them together.”

Sims said he and his wife want to help with global issues such as clean water and disease control. “She and I want to be on another mountain on another journey, doing things that are far more important to us,” Sims said.

“I want this to be a great city, I really do, but the answer is no. After 25 years and one heck of a run, no. It would be an honor to be mayor, but somebody else is going to have to be mayor.”
