Clergy chain themselves together to protest Seattle youth jail

A protest at the site for the new King County youth detention center apparently halted construction this morning.

Clergy members locked arms with others inside the fence of the site at SW 12th  Avenue and SW Alder Street in Central Seattle, an area usually bustling with construction workers and heavy equipment.

KUOW’s Liz Jones reports the clergy members arrived before dawn and chained themselves together.

After that, it appeared the work was halted for a while before starting again, though the clergy members were still chained together.

Activists have been staging events for months, opposing the $210 million Juvenile Justice Center.

This is a developing story. We will update this story as we have new information.
