Seattle-area resident Jennie Reed thought that after a world championship and two Olympics, she was ready to end her racing career in track cycling.

But when a fellow racer asked her to be part of the first-ever women's Olympic cycling team pursuit event, Reed decided to answer the call.

A new documentary film chronicles how this unlikely team came together -- with little institutional support from the U.S. Olympic Committee and far fewer resources than their main competitors from Great Britain, Canada and Australia -- and won a silver medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.

KUOW's Marcie Sillman speaks with Jennie Reed and her husband, Brandon Madden, about their quixotic quest.

The documentary film "Personal Gold" has its world premiere at noon Saturday, May 16, at SIFF's Uptown Cinema. The documentary is part of the Seattle International Film Festival.
