Norm Arkans

Norm Arkans has worked at the University of Washington since 1979 and overseen the University’s media relations program since 1985. He was named to his present post of Associate Vice President of Media Relations and Communications in 2004, having served as Associate Vice President and Executive Director of University Relations from 1993-2004, and as Assistant Vice President for University Relations from 1985-92.

Among a number of varied committee responsibilities, he serves on the President’s Cabinet and chairs the Committee on Ceremonies. Mr. Arkans received his B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College and earned M.A. and Ph. D. degrees in English Literature from the UW, with a scholarly emphasis on Victorian literature. He held a faculty position at the State University of New York at Stony Brook from 1976-79.
