Program Manager, Washington Center for the Book
Chris Higashi is program manager of the Washington Center for the Book at the Seattle Public Library, where she has worked since 1992. She co–founded and directs “Seattle Reads,” the Library's widely emulated One Book community reading program.
Chris coordinates the annual Washington State Book Awards, A. Scott Bullitt Lecture in American History and Living History Series, among other literary and humanities programming. In partnership with independent bookstores, she hosts a reading series featuring international, national and local authors.
She served on the board of Copper Canyon Press, preeminent nonprofit publisher of poetry, from 1994 to 2011. Chris has been a bookseller and was a law firm administrator for Wickwire, Lewis, Goldmark and Schorr. She is a native of Seattle.
