He’s turned that curiosity for found objects into a career. Marcie Sillman talked with Rothbart and his brother Peter Rothbart, an expert finder and musician, back in 2006 about lost trinkets, stray photographs and cast-aside artifacts just waiting to be discovered.

Stories From High School Reunions

One weekend back in 2005, Weekday Producer Katy Sewall attended her 10-year high school reunion. Katy claimed to have a wonderful time. High school reunions are notorious for disappointment, competition and awkward moments. But some listeners say they’re worth it. In this 2005 segment, Steve Scher talked with listeners and a few familiar voices from the KUOW studios.

Radio Retrospective: The War Of The Worlds

“The War of The Worlds” was an episode of the American radio drama, The Mercury Theatre on the Air. It aired on October 30, 1938, and convinced a number of listeners that a real alien invasion was in progress. Math Requirement May Delay Graduation For 3,730 High School Seniors Pass A Citizenship Test To Graduate? http://kuow.org/post/pass-citizenship-test-graduate
It’s not just math anymore, students are falling behind in history and civics too. A new report by independent, non-partisan research organization — the Pioneer Institute — says the state of US history and civics education is so abysmal that it makes “reading, mathematics and science achievement seem robust by comparison.” Washington state’s record isn’t any better. The state received a D grade from educational excellence organization, the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, for its quote “meager” US history standards.

To reverse this trend the Pioneer Institute report recommends a simple policy: require high school graduates to pass the US citizenship test. Ross Reynolds talks with Sandra Stotsky, professor of education reform and one of the authors of this report.

Thu, 18 Apr 2013 19:15:57 +0000 The Conversation With Ross Reynolds 11627 at http://kuow.org The Teenage Dream: Fitting In, Yet Standing Out http://kuow.org/post/teenage-dream-fitting-yet-standing-out
RadioActive's Halle Bills takes a look at the high school tradition of hazing or "froshing."
