About the Show:
Approaching Ecstasy features choreography from Whim W'Him's artistic director, Olivier Wevers in collaboration with Eric Banks and The Esoterics. It incorporates 33 singers, 5 instrumentalists, and 7 dancers and is inspired by the poems of Constantine Cavafy, who lived as a closeted gay man in Egypt at the end of the nineteenth-century. When it premiered in 2012, the Seattle Times said its visually sumptuous and City Arts Magazine found the combination of poetry, dance, and music a bold and successful choice.
