2012 AWARD WINNERS

  • Phyllis Fletcher's story "Secrets Of A Blonde Bombshell," that aired on Studio 360, uncovers the secret identity of 1930s bandleader Ina Ray Hutton;
  • Phyllis Fletcher was awarded first prize for her education beat reporting;
  • Dominic Black was given the Outstanding Achievement in Media award for his series, "The Viaduct," which explores how the Alaskan Way Viaduct came to be, why it represents cultural and political changes and why it is along the Seattle waterfront;
  • John Ryan's series, Danger At Work, has been awarded for Public Service in Radio Journalism for the five–part series that explores the causes and consequences of unsafe working conditions in Washington state;
  • Patrica Murphy, along with Hal Bernton of The Seattle Times, was given third place for The Weight of War that looks at the heavy loads carried by troops and explores the increase in chronic orthopedic injuries as a result of gear load, the efforts to lighten the load and the changes in pain care to help injured soldiers.
